The Aintree Institute
The Aintree Institute was built by local industrialist, William Hartley in 1890 as a social hall for the workers at his Jam Factory at Long Lane.
He also built, at about the same time, the Methodist
Chapel at
Both buildings still function today, however the factory has been closed now for many years.
It is the original home of the Aintree Action Group
Beatles on stage at the Institute

The Aintree Institute was
one of many Dance Halls of the time, that were a step up from playing in the
usual bars and celler clubs.
Though The Beatles had played regularly at the home
of “Sensational Jive Dances” at the Institute since January, it wasn’t until 12
August 1961 that Beekay promoter Brian Kelly hired “The Dynamic Beatles”as
Saturday night regulars. The gig lasted for seven weeks. Kelly, a great
supporter of the group since May 1960, booked the band for nearly 60
appearances at the Institute and

times at the Aintree Institute, which still features live music and community
events.
